BERNE, Ind. -- DRG, nationally-known publisher of special interest books and magazines, has released a new 176-page, spiral-bound crochet book featuring more than 70 chain-free crochet projects. Chain-Free Crochet Made Easy became available in a collectible hardcover edition in January 2009 and retails for $24.99.

Chain-Free Crochet Made Easy is written to make the art of crochet easy to learn, featuring a wide assortment of crochet projects -- all made without the normal foundational chain. The book includes step-by-step instructions, full color photos and illustrations on how to start a chain-free project using either a single, double, half double or slip ring foundation.

To make crocheting even easier, a photo-illustrated guide to creating foundation stitches is included at the back of the book, followed by a general crochet stitch guide and a list of common crochet abbreviations.

Chain-Free Crochet Made Easy is divided into five chapters. The first chapter includes fashion designs for men and women. Next, is a chapter with quick-to-stitch gifts. Chapter three offers projects for every room in the house, followed by a chapter offering 11 items for baby. Chapter five focuses on smaller crochet projects that call for no more than two skeins of yarn.

The book encompasses a wide variety of designs and project sizes ranging from doilies to afghans, with women's and men's sweaters, baby booties, dresses and blankets, plus items for the home, for gifts and for fashion.

Needlecrafters are encouraged to visit DRG's free Web site source called FreePatterns.com for other helpful crochet resources. The site offers free crochet downloads, newsletters and how-to tips on a variety of crafting techniques and patterns.
