BERNE, Ind.--Savvy Single Crochet is a new 16-page crochet pattern book published by Annie's Attic, well-known brand of special-interest publisher DRG. The book retails for $7.95 and features six single-crochet patterns written at the easy skill level.

Savvy Single Crochet is based on the American single crochet technique, which is known internationally as double crochet. By changing the placement of stitches and using a larger size hook, the fabric takes on the look of knit and uses less yarn than normal crochet. The larger hook size and taller stitches make it possible to complete projects more quickly.

The book features basic stitch instructions, including terminology and abbreviations, and offers technique aids that lend instruction for working in the starting chain and the end loops, with color illustrations for completing basic stitches.

Each project in the book includes a set of step-by-step instructions and a color photo of the finished item, along with a complete listing of the needed materials and additional pattern notes for increased ease of completion. Most of the products used in the book can be purchased from local craft, fabric and variety stores, or from the Annie's Attic Needlecraft Catalog at AnniesAtticCatalog.com.

Projects in Savvy Single Crochet include a baby blanket, a single stitch rug, a table runner, two dishcloth designs and a ripple afghan.
